Government
Relations
The food
industry is highly regulated and subject to strict standards.
The Michigan Grocers Association aggressively supports the
industry's interests in the legislature and with state agencies,
working to limit government's intervention in their business.
MGA’s
professional staff works in the halls of the State Capitol every
day to ensure that the food industry’s voice is heard on
important legislative and regulatory matters. Public hearings,
legislative committee meetings, and daily sessions of the House
and Senate all require constant attention.
Advocating the
food industry's interests in state government is not a sideline,
it's our job. Over the years we've had numerous legislative and
regulatory successes. Our plate remains full of initiatives to
keep the food industry competitive and worry-free so store
owners and company executives can concentrate on their core
business.

Annual
Legislative Reception
MGA's
Legislative Reception has become one of the most talked about
events of the year among our state legislators and regulatory
officials. This year's event was held
May 19, 2009 at MGA Headquarters in
Lansing. The reception provides an excellent
opportunity for members to talk informally about the hot topics
impacting the food industry and strengthen relationships. The
reception is 100% catered and funded by MGA members. This event
has proven to be an important grassroots addition to MGA's daily
advocacy and lobby work.

FoodPAC of
Michigan
It’s not enough to participate in the "process";
the food industry has to help elect legislators and statewide
office-holders that understand our needs and support a
pro-business agenda. Michigan’s campaign finance laws strictly
limit corporate contributions to political campaigns, but by
leveraging individual contributions, FoodPAC can
effectively support candidates in strategically important
elections. Supporting FoodPAC is the single best way that
individuals can influence electoral outcomes and help protect
the industry that provides for their families.
FoodPAC conveniently accepts individual
contributions by personal check or credit card. For more
